A criminal gang is thought to be targeting buildings in Roche, UK, which are home to elderly and vulnerable people.
Scores of houses across Cornwall, including several in the Clay Country town, have been targeted by the criminals who rip plastic key safes from the walls outside of properties. The boxes house the key to the property to allow access to family and carers.
Several have been found in the last couple of months smashed on the floor after thieves have taken the key - although nothing has been stolen from any of the houses.
PC Gareth Hawken who is based in Roche said: "Unfortunately it seems that people have cottoned on to the way the keys are housed and are trying to force them off walls and break them open to get the key and gain entry into people's houses.
